| A little background
We have to go back to 1906 to find the first traces of the construction materials production and marketing company originally set up by Mr. and Mrs. Vanbellingen, maternal great-grandparents of present directors Eddy and Danny Roosens.
In 1961, Michel Roosens founded Les Bétons de la Croyère in Bois d’Haine, where the company’s present head office is now located.
However, it was not until 1977 that Roosens Bétons SPRL as such saw the light, with the construction of the first automated concrete-block production facility in Bois d’Haine.
In 1978, a second such facility was set up, this time in Familleureux, the geographical centre of Belgium, on the aptly named site The Golden Brick. This was followed in 1979 by an investment of € 500,000 in a ready-mixed concrete plant.
In 1980, a third concrete-block production facility was built. Although the eighties were a time of crisis for the construction sector, the decade was put to good use by Roosens Bétons for improving the company’s internal profitability.
The nineties were marked by the energetic revival of the company’s investment program and the launch of many new products, including a production line for reinforced concrete flooring (filler blocks), a new press for the production of paving stones/curb stones/cinder blocks, a new ready-mixed concrete plant, the buyout of Bétorix and the creation of Roosens Bétorix on the Hermalle-sous-Argenteau site, concurrent with investments in a state-of-the-art facility for the production of decorative concrete blocks and bricks and a ready-mixed concrete plant.
In the new millennium, efforts to strengthen and expand production capacity have continued (over 100 houses a day), with the buyout of Conforbéton and Unibéton (specialized in the production of concrete blocks), the construction of a concrete products facility in Wegorzyno in northern Poland, the installation of a new block press, the buyout of Noël in Fleurus, the creation of an R&D department to develop innovative products for the needs of today’s market, the construction of new buildings (which very efficiently communicate the quality of the company and its products to present and future partners), the installation of a multi-purpose high-precision press for blocks, curb stones, etc., and the upgrading of the reinforced concrete flooring production line.
In total, more than € 22,000,000 has been invested over the last 20 years.
In 2002, Roosens Services launched BESTO, a new development in thin-joint cement blocks. This new masonry concept was given the first prize in innovation at Batibouw by the Confédération Nationale de la Construction and the Centre Scientifique et Technique de la Construction (CSTC) at the beginning of 2005. The new concept has already been adopted by some well-known construction companies for the construction of single-family homes and industrial buildings. It officially premiered at the Batibouw show in March 2006.
It is also worth noting that throughout its development, Roosens Services has continually invested in the growth and specialization of its transport systems. These investments have significantly contributed to the quality of its services – a quality that is and always will be the main building block of its reputation. |
