CHARACTERISTICS Mechanical characteristics

A large number of mechanical tests were carried out to certify the Besto® technique. The list of tests was defined with the official certification bodies (SECO and CSTC) and our calculations office (Alpha Buro).

Block compression tests : Mechanical strength is measured as per the NBN B21/001 standard (tests carried out at INISMA and CSTC). Besto® blocks have been certified to be compliant with BENOR standards in Belgium.

Thickness (cm) fbk Strength (MPA) Class P
9 > 3 f3 1.0
14 > 3 f3 0.8
19 > 3 f3 0.8
29 > 3 f3 0.8

Compression tests on sleeper walls: compression strength is measured as per the NBN B24/211 standard, and is provided as an indication (tests carried out at INISMA and CSTC).

Thickness (cm) Height (cm) Length (cm) Compression strength(MPa) Load (T)
14 108 58 4 32
19 108 58 3.2 35
29 108 58 2.8 47

Permissible vertical loads for a masonry wall (as per NBN ENV 1996-1-1 Eurocode 6).
